In the words of one of my favorite political comedian, Welcome, Welcome, Welcome to My Expatacular Journey
I initially started writing as a way to put my feelings down and release them a bit. So much was happening, so fast. I had to find a way to express those feelings and document them.
This blog will take you through my life as a mom, expat and and human trying to navigate this crazy big world! In early September of 2019 my family and I embarked on a journey to move to The Netherlands from the United States. You might ask, The Netherlands, how did you come to that decision? Well, my dear husband is a Dutch national. He had lived in the United States for a while and started to feel homesick. I’m not talking that, oooo I miss Bojangles (a southern fast food chain) homesick, I’m talking that homesick that makes you down and sad. I had visited The Netherlands alot and I loved it. I loved the culture, the laid back lifestyle, the food, the coffee and ohhh how could I forget, Albert Heijn (I will post later on my love for grocery stores). Additionally, we all know of the treatment of Black people in the United States; the thought of raising a black son in the US with those injustices is down right scary. After giving it a lot of thought and consideration for what we would give up and what we stood to gain; we decided to take the leap and move.
So much happens in life and we don’t always properly deal with it. This was my way to ensure that when I look back on this time, I am able to reflect and learn from it. As you come along this journey with me, my hope is that you are able to vividly experience what I experience and maybe even identify. I also hope that you respect my writing and photos as I will always respect you!
